The Project

The Project

Design and create a stool that has a purpose.

When I heard the prompt, I immediately thought of my grandma. Her knees are weak due to climbing so many subway stairs, and when she makes kimchi, she struggles to squat down. Mainly a gift to Kimchi makers, Chi is a stool that improves safety and resonates on the history of Kimchi making.

Design and create a stool that has a purpose.

I led the design from Day 1 and am making regular updates to prepare for its adoption across different youth group organizations—currently, two youth groups want in.

Final Takeaways

Chi was a work of love - taking over 40 hours and requiring so many new skills. Although I love UX/UI design, industrial design projects like this where you can physically use the product are amazing.

Key Learnings:

  • Wood Bending

  • Ergonomics

  • CAD & 3D Rendering
